• All you need to know about myPOS Online Identification

    1. What is online identification?

Online identification is a procedure with which myPOS verifies the identity of its clients. It is a quick and simple process that you will be guided through.

Everything a client needs to complete the identity verification is a valid passport or a national ID card with a picture. Do note that you will need to present the actual passport or ID card, not a copy of it.

    2. Why does myPOS require online identification?

myPOS is legally required to verify every merchant’s identity, as we are a payment service provider, registered in the UK and regulated by UK’s Financial Conduct Authority. Our online identification process is a crucial part of our Customer Due Diligence policy and cannot be waived.

    3. Is online identification a legal process?

Yes. Online identification is a new security process that is finding its way across the world. In accordance with the EU Fourth Money Laundering Directive, all institutions providing financial services are obliged to confirm the identity of a third party before entering into a business relationship.

    4. How secure is your online identification process?

We have taken all necessary measures to safely handle your personal data. Our ID process features data encryption and storage on secure servers in Luxembourg. Only strictly authorised verification personnel are able to access your personal details.

    5. Are there any other security measures besides online ID?

myPOS does its best to provide all its merchants with excellent security on all levels of operation. For instance, we monitor every transaction and we will notify you if we suspect that there’s the slightest chance of fraud.

    6. Is online identification popular?

It is the most innovative way to check someone’s identity and myPOS is a pioneer in this field being one of the first companies in Europe to use this method.

    7. How do I complete the online identification process?

To make it easier on you, myPOS has simplified the merchant identification to a fast online procedure. To complete it, you need a valid passport or national ID card with a picture. Please keep in mind that you must present your passport or ID card - copies of the documents are not accepted.

Here is a short overview of the online identification process:

    • An email is sent to the email address provided when registering for a myPOS account. Open the email and click on the link to confirm your e-mail
    • Download and install the myPOS mobile app on your smartphone
    • If you don’t have a myPOS account yet, select “Sign up”; if you do, tap on “Log in” and enter your credentials
    • Prepare your official and valid government-issued national ID card or passport with your picture on it (we do not accept a driver’s license as official ID; A driver’s license can be accepted only as an additional document for an identity check) and tap “Next”
    • Make sure you are alone and that you have a reliable Wi-Fi or data connection.
    • Start the online identification process. This step is really easy and simple as this is in fact a self-identification done on your own.

Here are the steps for it:

    • At first you will be requested to choose your nationality and your identity document type.
    • The app will ask you to grant it permission to access your geographical location.
    • You’re now ready to get started!
    • When you click on “Continue”, the app will ask the standard permissions for microphone and camera use.
    • The self-identification process starts with a picture of your chosen identity document. You will need to align the document within the parameters of the screen, starting with the front and then the back. Once aligned, the phone will automatically take a picture of the document. Please note that the photo and all elements on the document need to be completely visible.
    • You will have the option to re-take the photo if some of the elements are blurred or unclear.
    • The next step is to take a selfie. You will be guided to place your head within a circle on the screen. Note that there should be no other people in the background. You will also receive further written instructions if you need to move your head closer or further away from the screen in order to take the selfie, or whether more light is needed.
    • A screen will appear which uploads your documents to the system. During this process, and should the upload fail, you will need to re-do the self-identification process.
    • In the final screen, you will be notified that your documents are being processed and that you will receive a notification once our team is ready.
    • In cases where your proof of address is required, you will receive an email, push notification and a message in the notification centre in your account.
    • Please note that additional documents might be required in order to verify your company and complete the Merchant Verification Process. If we need more information or documents from you, we will get back to you within 2-3 business days.
    • That’s it! Welcome to the myPOS family!

In case the self-identification can’t be initiated due to technical or other reasons, we have a back-up option in place - Video identification.

Here are the steps for it:

    • You will be connected to one of our myPOS agents who will guide you through the identification process.
    • The operator will ask you to take a photo of your face and ID document.
    • While the call is active, you will also receive an SMS on your phone containing a code. Once you receive it, notify the operator and read the code to them.
    • The operator will notify you if you have passed the identification call successfully. The last step in the process would be for our team to check the documents provided and get back to you within 48 business hours.
    • Please note that additional documents might be required in order to verify your company and complete the Merchant Verification Process. If we need more information or documents from you, we will get back to you within 2-3 business days.
    • That’s it! Welcome to the myPOS family!
