How a Paris beauty institute made the checkout part of the treatment

In wellness, the final minute of an appointment can shape whether a client returns. A slow card machine or awkward checkout can disrupt the calm a treatment spent an hour creating, affecting rebookings, tips and customer loyalty in the process.

At Paris beauty institute Ô Majorelle, founder Nourelhouda Essamaa recognised that payments were part of the client experience, not separate from it. So she designed the checkout to feel just as calming as the treatment itself.

For a wellness business where margins are tight and word of mouth does most of the growth, those small wins compound.

A sensory journey, not a treatment list

This is Ô Majorelle – “my oriental beauty garden” as Nourelhouda likes to call it.  A Moroccan-inspired institute in the heart of Paris, built quite deliberately as an escape hatch from the city around it.

“I wanted to create a true Moroccan-inspired escape, a place that invites you to travel, where each treatment is rooted in oriental traditions, just as our grandmothers practised them,” she explains.

That intention runs through every detail. The oils are chosen like souvenirs from a long journey: orange-cinnamon from Marrakech or rose from Damascus. The menu reads like a map, with a Tunisian massage here and a Petra ritual with hot stones there. Rich colours, layered textures and the scent of oud do the rest of the work.

Behind the atmosphere sits a serious technical foundation. Nourelhouda is trained in lymphatic drainage, nutrition and holistic wellness, and she’s often the one on the table with the client. That shapes each visit into a personalised protocol that treats the body and the mind together.

The last minute of a perfect hour

Every spa owner knows the moment. A client sits up from the table, still relaxed, and now has to settle the bill before heading home. A slow terminal or a card that won’t read can undo the whole work of the hour before.

In wellness, the checkout is not a separate thing that happens after the treatment. It’s the very last part of the treatment itself, and clients remember it the same way.

That was the piece Ô Majorelle wanted to get right. The oud, the oils and the hour on the table were already there. The checkout had to match them.

“A fast and seamless payment process helps preserve this sense of well-being and ensures the visit ends on a positive note,” Nourelhouda says.

A checkout that keeps up with the treatment

The institute chose myPOS for a short list of practical reasons.

“I chose myPOS for its instant access to funds, practicality, and ease of use. The support team is always available and responds quickly to my questions, which makes our day-to-day smoother,” she adds.

In a small institute where the owner is often also the practitioner, that matters more than any feature list. Every minute spent troubleshooting a card machine is a minute taken away from a client on the table. Every day spent waiting on funds is a day of second-guessing the month’s cash flow. And when a question does come up, it doesn’t sit unanswered.

Small change, real difference

The shifts since the switch are the kind that show up in the business rather than in a brochure. The sense that nothing, at any point during the appointment, ruined the mood.

"Digital payments have greatly improved convenience for my clients. This has led to an increase in tips and repeat visits, while also making our operations more efficient," Nourelhouda notes.

A checkout that protects the mood protects the rebooking rate. Higher tips mean happier staff. Smoother transactions mean faster turnover between appointments, while clients who leave calm are the clients who come back.

Building a quiet corner of Paris

Ô Majorelle's ambitions reach beyond a single institute. Nourelhouda sees the wellness industry in cities like Paris moving toward more technology, more attention to mental health, and a deeper pull toward sustainable, community-driven practices. Her advice to other founders echoes her philosophy for her clients: study your market, build something authentic, and stay genuinely connected to the people you serve.

Payments are a small part of that vision, but an important one. For any spa, salon or independent practitioner weighing up their options, the lesson from Rue Popincourt is a simple one. The checkout isn't the end of the service. It's the last minute of it.

At Ô Majorelle, the oud still hangs in the air. The jasmine oil still warms between a practitioner's hands. And at the end of the journey, a single quiet tap lets clients step back onto Rue Popincourt without ever quite leaving the garden behind.
